Martin has established an extensive practice at the Bar specializing in criminal law, coronial inquests, administrative, migration and commercial law. In addition, he has extensive experience in the preparation of complex matters for court presentation, having been a member of the Victoria Police for twenty-three years, the last nine years as a Detective Senior Sergeant of the Major Fraud Squad. He led the investigation of the National Safety Council of Australia, which culminated in charges being laid against Mr. John Friedrich.

Martin has been Counsel Assisting in both the Metropolitan Ambulance Service Royal Commission and at the Longford Royal Commission. He is a member of the Victorian Bar Readers' Course Committee. In this capacity, he is an active and regular instructor in the course, conducting workshops on rules of evidence and advocacy. He also instructs at final year law students at the Monash University Advocacy Course.
